Introduction
Center Laboratories
The Center laboratories
are located in room 224, College of Nursing. These consist of a common-use
area suitable for the preparation of reagents and routine biochemical
assays, a tissue culture laboratory (rm. 224E) rated for Biosafety
Level 2 procedures and a molecular biology/molecular genetics laboratory
(rm. 224G).
The
laboratories are fully equipped to permit the performance of a wide
variety of biologically-based research methods. These include cell
culture, biochemistry, immunoassays (such as ELISA), protein, RNA
and DNA sample preparation and analysis, and a wide variety of molecular
and genetic analyses.
Upon completion of
equipment purchases in 2004, these laboratories will provide Center
members with the sample preparation capabilities necessary to take
full advantage of the many state-of-the-art, multi-user facilities
available throughout The University of Arizona.
Equipment
CIMRR Laboratories offers a variety of equipment. You can find a list of the equipment at: http://cimrr.arizona.edu/equipmentTraining.htm
Lab Requirements
-
CIMRR Members Only
To be able to use the CIMRR Laboratories you must first be a CIMRR member. To apply to become a member go to http://cimrr.arizona.edu/becomeamember.htm and register.
-
Apply to use the Lab
Once you are a CIMRR member you can apply to use the lab. Applications are available online (View application). Please provide IRB and MUA approvals if applicable.
Please note that all names and project titles must match. The titles on MUA and IRB approvals, human subject and animal protocols, and all of the Center's paper work must match. We cannot give access to the lab if there is any discrepancy in the project titles or names in the paper work.
NOTE:You must have Adobe Reader 7.0 to view this application. Get Acrobat Reader 7.0.
Upon completion of the application, please print it and deliver to College of Nursing Room 224-G (Amy's box). All applications must be reviewed and approved before lab use.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact David Montgomery (dmontgom@dakotacom.net) or Amy Vidrine (avidrine@nursing.arizona.edu).
-
Student/Personnel Application
Once your project has been approved, all students or personnel that will be working on the project and require access to the lab will be asked to fill out a Student/Personnel Application Form. This form is for documentation purposes and will be kept on file in the CIMRR Laboratories.
-
Certifications / Training
All personnel requiring access to the laboratory are required by OSHA and the University of Arizona to take the General Laboratory Chemical Hygiene Training from Risk Management. There are no exceptions.
If you are using blood (human or animal) in your experiments, you will also be required to take Bloodborne Pathogens training, also from Risk Management.
Other training may be required in accordance to University of Arizona or CIMRR policies, to be determined on a case-by-case basis. The certifications required will be based on the experiments conducted in the laboratory (i.e. CITI course in human subjects required for those working with humans). To view a list of possible certifications, Click Here.
Hard copies of these certifications will be requested for all personnel prior to laboratory access approval. Failure to provide certifications will result in removal from the lab.
Lab equipment training is also available and can be requested from Dr. David Montgomery, scientific advisor for CIMRR. In addition, Dr. Montgomery will assist members developing new research projects in determining the feasibility of using the laboratory for these projects and to advise them on methods and procedures. Dr. Montgomery can be contacted by phone at the VA Medical Center, 792-1450, extension 6380, or by email at (dmontgom@dakotacom.net)
- Approved Members
Once you have been approved to use the CIMRR Laboratories you will be able to schedule time to use the CIMRR Lab Equipment. To schedule time in the lab please fill out the PI Equipment / Lab Space Request Form. To avoid conflicts and overlapping lab dates/times please review the online lab calendar with everyone’s scheduled lab times. As before, upon completion of the request form, please print it and deliver to College of Nursing Room 224-G (Amy's box). All forms will be reviewed and approved based on lab availability.
When your request is approved, an email will be sent to you confirming dates, times and the equipment to be used. After you have received your confirmation email, please check the dates/times/equipment on the online lab calendar to make sure they match.
